But what do the Taliban and al-Qaeda have in common? They are jihadist groups dedicated to the imposition of Islamic law, and the brutal treatment of any person or nation (or ancient Buddhist statue) that stands in the way. One has a global reach; one is a regional operation. But the goal is the same.
Now… how does one hope to “split” that? The hope is that the Taliban fighters are largely insincere about this agenda and just want a paycheck. As the military saying goes, “hope is not a method.” In any event, it is not a good method, and even less so when “hope” translates into throwing good money after bad in fruitless attempts to buy loyalty from a fighter who knows, as Muhammad said, that “War is deceit.”

El Pais Google translate – (H/T Maria) – A (Musel-) man armed with an ax in a large health center in Fuenlabrada (Madrid) has attacked staff and patients. The assailant, identified as AEB, 40, of Moroccan nationality and resident of the town, has seriously wounded three people in the ambulatory El Naranjo before being stopped by a young man in the health center waiting for them to attend his wife. The injured are two administrators and one nurse and the three are in serious condition.

Well, that’s the headline to Ahmed Versi’s interview with the Labour Party leader in the Muslim News. Whether Ed Miliband’s statements justify that headline you can make up your own mind. I would say they don’t.
It’s not Ahmed Versi’s fault. He poses some sharp questions – on Cameron’s “multiculturalism” speech, Labour’s relations with the MCB, counter-terrorism policy, failure by British governments to take action over Israel’s breach of UN resolutions, Labour’s attitude to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, etc – but Miliband just waffles and fudges the issues.
